Arlanda Avairy
- Description: A research project with Arlanda Airport to investigate how to streamline information directly to passengers. Based on a statistical survey into the background of passengers to Arlanda Airport, it became clear that the majority were swedish business travellers who would most likely hold a smart phone.
Using the existing service Twitter, passengers can follow @arlandaairport to receive mobile updates about flight information. The passenger can also tweet @arlandaairport about experiences they have at the airport and ways of improving their journey. These tweets are a rich source of data for Arlanda. In a more artistic response, along the lines of TROIKA's cloud for Terminal 5, a prototype was developed that sonified data using text-to-speech software to convert the tweets into birdsong. The concept was inspired by birds mimicking mobile phone rings. By playing these sounds back through hidden bird boxes around the Airport, we can complete the feedback loop by using technology to mimic birdsong.
