IDEO
- Description: From August 2010 I worked as a communication designer at IDEO munich. This was a great opportunity to experience the IDEO process and tackle some challenging projects on the subjects of diabetes, heart issues and branding systems. Unfortunately I cannot show any of the work I did there but I can explain loosely the themes and what I learnt.
One project involved designing a complex yet easy-to-use system for healthy living. This project involved deep research through prototype-prompted user observations, field research, ipad app prototyping and role playing. The final system was communicated through a brand, website, product and animated short.
Another project involved researching a new brand strategy for a fashion brand. This was an incredibly interesting project as we pulled back the layers of consumer opinions, expectations and behaviours in comparison to the brand's own opinions and ideals. Field research involved visiting 8 countries, where I travelled to Shanghai and Seoul on an intense 5 day research-driven documentation. Lugging 2 canon 5d's, a mound of recording equipment and workshop material around while jet lagged is a tricky task to not forget anything.
Before this I have worked with many great people, but it was here I discovered what it meant to be a great project leader and how essential this role is for a team to run well under demanding and sometimes bewildering circumstances. Above all, friendliness, personability, respect, direction, unending enthusiasm, realising individuals potentials and constant cake supplies are part of a complex role.
